Cropping

By cropping tight around the subject you eliminate the background "noise", ensuring the subject gets the viewer's undivided attention.

Framing

The tree frames the subject.

Depth

^this pic = good depth becuause you can see the the land in the back as well as the changing of the water.

Background

Sometimes the background can take away from the main focus. And we don't want that!

View Point

The view point you choose can take just a boring snapshot in an extraordinary photo!

Looking down on a city lets you see the vastness. Where as if you took a picture with the city you wouldnt be able to see that.

Symmetry and Patterns.

Symmetry and patterns can make for very eye-catching composition.

Leading Lines

Leading lines draw our eye down the path or road or through the scene.

Balancing Elements

This photo is a good example of how balancing elements. With out the smaller flower in the bottom corner the background would just be a lot of empty space.

Empty space is boring. By jack adding a little something else you can still focus on the main subject.

Rule of Thirds

DefinitionThe rule of thirds states than an image is most pleasing when its subjects or regions are composed along imaginary lines which divide the image into thirds — both vertically and horizontally. Like a tic-tac-toe board!

This picture of a cute puppy is a good example! The right vertical line would pass straight through him!

This log would be a bad example =( because no points or lines would touch it.
